Who is Princess Irulan from Dune and what is their importance?

Princess Irulan is the Emperor's eldest daughter and heir. She marries Paul Atreides after his successful defeat of the Emperor and House Harkonnen at the battle of Arrakeen. Her father resists the marriage, Irulan however, who has been trained by the Bene Gesserit, says this is her destiny.
