What metaphors are used in Drown by Junot Diaz?

When Yunior enters the swimming pool to swim amidst the other kids who are doing drugs and having sex, he goes to actually swim. With everything that is going on in his lif, in addition to the forces working against his goals, the swimming pool represents a metaphorical baptism.
