Describe the yearning that drove Knapp to drink.

Knapp explains that she always had a constant yearning or want for something she could not grasp. There was not a time when she did not crave for this thing she could never identify. She easily became obsessed with things--wanted new shoes, befriending new people, getting a certain grade in a class. If she did not get what she wanted she became extremely depressed and bereft.
