Who is Mother from Dragonwings?

Mother is Moon Shadow's mother and Windrider's wife. She is left behind when Moon Shadow comes to America. A great portion of the story involves Windrider's attempts to bring her to America and fulfill his promise. Unfortunately, he must overcome many obstacles, including those presented by his family members to do so.
