What did Tanis want to know that Berem didn't understand himself?

Tanis wanted to know why the Queen of Darkness was exerting all of her energy in the attempt to get a hold of the Green Gemstone man, Berem. However, Berem didn't understand this himself, and so couldn't offer Tanis the explanations he desired. All he could say was that he had to get out of where they were and keep going as he was drawn elsewhere.
