Who is Dougal MacKenzie from Dragonfly in Amber and what is their importance?

Dougal is Jamie's uncle and Colum's brother. Because of his brother's illness, Dougal, the younger of the brothers assists Colum in ruling castle Leoch. Dougal has a wife and two daughters.
