What is the theme in Dope Sick by Walter Dean Myers?

One major theme in the novel, Dope Sick, is unfairness, specifically all of the events that Lil J claims have messed up his life.... never once admitting that the majority of what's "unfair" is in reality a result of his own poor choices.
