Why does Amal dissaprove of her Uncle Joe and Aunt Mandy's attempt at to seem ultra-Austrailian?

In Chapter 21, we learn that Amal disapproves of the way Uncle Joe goes overboard in his attempts to prove he has assimilated into the Australian culture. She sees Uncle Joe's use of Australian slang, as awkward and somewhat embarrassing.
