Who is Hakan and what conflict develops out of his appearance in Chapter 8?

Hakan is the older brother of Amal's friend Leila. While Yasmeen, Amal and Leila are hanging out together at Leila's house, Hakan enters the kitchen. Amal reports that Hakan has gone by the name Sam since he entered high school, but that she and Leila still call him Hakan. Hakan cursorily greets the young women when he enters the kitchen, but then turns abruptly to Leila and demands that she make him a plate of food. When Leila protests, he repeats his order menacingly before leaving the room. Leila is embarrassed and her friends are shocked at the misogynistic undertones in Hakan's actions.
