In Chapter 30, Amal tells the reader that she misses many different things about her friendship with Adam, now that they are no longer speaking to one another. She misses watching television shows with him while they are on the phone together, she misses “his laughing eyes, his curiosity,” and “the vulnerability” (254) in Adam’s expression when he discusses his biological mother.
