Amal is sitting with Eileen and Simone during lunch one day at school. She is feeling unwilling to tell either of her two friends about the situation with Leila and her family for fear that they will use the story to generalize all Muslims' behaviors or beliefs. Suddenly overwhelmed by the need to feel free, Amal begs Simone and Eileen to skip school with her. After a half-day spent at the beach with her friends, Amal feels comfortable enough to share the details of Leila's plight and her friends surprise her with their compassion and insight. The only negative consequence levied is a week of lunchtime detentions for each of the girls.
