In an attempt to get out of having to take a birthday gift from her mother to Mrs. Vaselli, their next-door neighbor, Amal comes up with a variety of excuses. In a particularly hilarious display of inventiveness, Amal claims that since Mrs. Vaselli is Greek Orthodox and has so many crosses on her wall, Amal could not possibly enter such a home. Her mother points out with a smile that Amal had attended a Catholic school throughout her primary years.
