Adam's party symbolizes the differences between Amal and Adam. The party is wilder than Amal imagined, and she allows herself to be in a situation outside her normal habits because she is anxious for a deeper friendship with Adam. It is during this party that Amal discovers Adam wants more than a platonic friendship. Amal must face the fact that she has led Adam to believe that could happen.
