When Adam was seven years old, about ten years before the narrative present, he went to school and when he came home, his mother was gone. From that day forward, he saw her very little, especially after she moved to Holland with her boyfriend and had children with him. Adam adds that he remembers to this day the taste of the McDonald's hamburger his father bought him on the afternoon of his mother's sudden departure. Adam recalls he arrived home and there was no mother and little explanation from his father.
