Why do Eunice's friends dislike Thad in the novel, Disorientation?

Though Eunice is seeing Thad for the majority of the novel, no one in Eunice's sphere likes him. He is a white man who works in tech, but this is not the sole reason for his infamy. Rather, Thad has designed an inherently racist app, which others disdain.
