Ato Yawson is the novel's main character. The story chronicles his return to Ghana after he has finished his education in the West. He returns to Ghana with his wife, an African American named Eulalie. Ato experiences many conflicts upon his return and has difficulty adapting to the traditional African culture he left, after his years living in the Western World.
