How seriously is Abbey taking this government job?

Very seriously. Although cleaning up after tourists is not glamorous, he loves and enjoys the area so much that he seems to feel protective of it. He seems to find the badge humorous, and the pay is laughable, but the job itself, being a steward for that area of the earth, is deeply important to him.
