Chaim is the man chosen by God to lead the Israelis out of Jerusalem to Petra. Chaim doubts his own ability to do the job he has been given. He first asks for signs, then requests someone be sent with him to talk for him. Buck, who accompanies Chaim, knows that Chaim is the only one able to do the job that God has given him.
