Hercule Poirot in Death on the Nile is a French investigator, and not unlike Sherlock Holmes, is famed for solving the unsolvable. In this story he's in his mid-fifties, unmarried, and has no children.
Well off, he often travels, which is the case in this story. He opts to vacation in Egypt, but as so often happens, he becomes embroiled in a mystery when there are some murders on the ship that he is traveling up the Nile on. His characteristics are that he is very observant, understands human psychology and is able to make intuitive leaps. He is slender, fastidius in his dress, even stylish.
