Why does Jasmin's captor think she is not a good mother when he confronts her at her apartment?

Jasmin tries to persuade her captor to take her to Hannah. He explodes and tells her that she is a terrible mother. She let the newspapers write the lies about the children when all she would have had to do was an interview to put things right.
