What does the author say this book is about (and not about) in the Prologue?

The author says that the book is not a book about the politics of immigration or immigration at all, really. At its core, "This book is about homelessness, not in a traditional sense, but the unsettled, unmoored psychological state that undocumented immigrants like me find ourselves in" (2).
