Why does Camelia lie and go to see Kimmie?

Instead of talking to her father, Camelia decides to go to Kimmie's, lying that Kimmie is having some sort of crisis. Camelia fills Kimmie in on the gift and the phone call. Camelia also reveals that Ben says she is in trouble. Kimmie warns Camelia to stay away from Ben.
