What is the theme in Dead Irish by John Lescroart?

Jealousy plays a large role in the novel Dead Irish by John Lescroart. Father James Cavanaugh, trusted friend and family priest of the Cochran family, kills the oldest son, Eddie, when he learns that the good fortunes of the Cochran family will continue for another generation.
