Who is Wedge Antilles from Dark Force Rising and what is their importance?

Wedge Antilles is the leader of the X-Wing fighter squadrons. He is loyal to Han, Leia and Luke, and he does what he can to help them throughout the novel. He enjoys working alongside Luke and Han because life is never dull around them.
