How does the author use foreshadowing in Daniel's Story?

In Chapter Two, Matas uses a dream/nightmare sequence from when Daniel was ten-years-old to foreshadow current events. Then he had a nightmare, now, when he is fourteen and looking back at those pictures, he is living a nightmare.
