Kumalo is upset that Absalom keeps trying to avoid responsibility for his actions in the murder, blaming it on his companionship or repeating that he did not “intend” to do it. Kumalo is further worried that Absalom seems more upset about his own fate, wallowing in self-pity, rather than feeling remorse for killing a good man for no reason.
