The rainstorm that ends the drought symbolizes the end of the darkest time for Ndotsheni and Kumalo. The community will not be completely destroyed, and there is hope for a better future. The rainstorm is a metaphor for the intervention of James Jarvis, arriving in the village at the same time as the man himself, and singlehandedly bringing about the revitalization of the community.
