While Kumalo is simply grateful to James Jarvis for his generosity and compassion in taking on the challenge of revitalizing Ndotsheni, Napoleon is more bitter. While he does not have anything personal against Jarvis, he is resentful that blacks must rely on wealthy whites like Jarvis for charity, when it was whites who stripped blacks of their lifestyle in the first place.
