Absalom is only marginally gratified by his wedding. His attention post-ceremony is mainly on his unborn child, asking his father to use all the money Absalom has left to take care of the baby, and requesting it be named Peter if it is a boy. The girl, on the other hand, is overjoyed to finally belong to the Kumalo family, and to be considered Stephen’s daughter, though she is the only one to express any contentment in the face of Absalom’s almost certain hanging.
