Who is Laurie Pye from Crow Lake and what is their importance?

Fourteen-year-old, Laurie Pye, is Calvin's son. In public, he is quiet.... almost shy, until one day, he explodes on the schoolyard and beats up the school bully. This event proves be a catalyst that shows Laurie he doesn't have to take the abuse at home. One Saturday, Laurie reaches his limits at home and walks away. He returns when he realizes he has nowhere to go, only to be confronted by his father and killed for his pains.
