Katie Morrison is a twenty-seven-year-old invertebrate ecologist working in a university in Canada. Katie has recently received an invitation to the eighteenth birthday of her nephew, Simon. This invitation causes Katie to begin thinking about the past as well as forced to decide if she can allow her new lover into her past. Ever since she left the small town of Crow Lake for university, Katie has separated herself from her siblings, refusing to invite them into her present life. Daniel, her lover, knows very little about her siblings and this has caused a great deal of trouble for Katie in this relationship. In fact, Katie knows that if she does not invite Daniel to this party that it could mean the end of their relationship.
