Significance of Tourist

The tourist in Francesca's allegorical story symbolizes Rachel who, like the tourist, will be hurt if she does not release her catch (Nick) back into its natural environment. Francesca uses her story to covertly threaten Rachel and remind her that she is unwelcome and in danger.
