In Book I, Father Nicholas Rosetti and the prophecy are introduced. Foreshadowing can be seen where the Pope tells him "You will be alone". The voice visits Father Rosetti and he becomes ill. His illness is sudden and mimics a heart attack, although doctors can find no physiological evidence for his affliction. This pattern of the voice followed by illness will repeat many times throughout the book and afflict multiple characters.
