First, Amari is purchased at a high price, moving quickly from 10 pounds to 60, as the men fight over her purchase as a sexual slave. Further, it is even more grotesque that Mr. Derby finds it acceptable to purchase a woman for his son, who is turning 16. These facts clarify just how revolting these men could be.
