The great white that attacked the swimmer in 1916 was probably born in the Atlantic around 1908. This date is given to lead into the fact that in 1916, most people had never seen a shark. Few had seen photos or even drawings. Many in the early twentieth century began to think that man-eating sea creatures were more myth than reality.
