Dr. Vansant rushed to his son. He knew he had to stop the bleeding or there was no hope for his son. He took strips of cloth from a woman's dress to use as a tourniquet. The blood continued to gush. Two more doctors joined Vansant, but were both at a loss. They decided to move Charles indoors where they would have access to water, soap and bandages. But Charles had lost too much blood and died from shock and hemorrhaging. There was nothing the doctor could have done to save his son.
