Claudette's lawyer was a young man. Fred Gray was only twenty-four and just out of law school. He was committed to destroying segregation. Gray organized the other kids on the bus to testify and black leaders rallied behind her. Her hearing was on March 18th, 1955 and Claudette was confident. She faced three charges: breaking the segregation law, disturbing the peace and assaulting a police officer.
