On May 6th, 1955, Gray went to the Montgomery Circuit Court to appeal Claudette's conviction and Judge Eugene Carter dropped all the charges, save the one for assaulting a police officer. This was depressing as there was nothing left to appeal constitutionally. Everyone but Gray lost interest in an appeal and Claudette still had a criminal record.
