Who is Hodge from City of Bones and what is their importance?

Hodge is a shadowhunter. He is an older man, who is in charge of looking after the Institute, and who instructs the young shadowhunters. Hodge was cursed for his involvement with the Circle. In the end, we learn that Hodge is a traitor, working with Valentine instead of the Clave.
