Who is Young Val from Children of the Mind and what is their importance?

Young Val was created at exactly the same time and by exactly the same means as Peter, Young Val is also a caricature but one with a very different set of qualities from her brother. Based on Ender's idealization of his sister when she was 13 years old, she is entirely selfless to a fault. Without a life force of her own, Young Val begins to disintegrate early in the novel.
