In the section titled, I Am a Man of Perfect Simplicity, Card's willingness to embrace history and politics in this chapter demonstrates his range and ability as a writer. Not merely limited to science fiction, Card is able to abstract ideas to foreshadow a future in which Japanese culture has moved from the margins of power to occupy the epicenter, just as historically other cultures such as China, America, Rome, Egypt and Mesopotamia have done the same thing.
