An obvious theme is greed (and the consequences that follow greed). Though all the guests sucuumb to the temptations in the factory, Charlie and his grandfather are able to resist them until the very end. Referring to the 1971 version of the book, Charlie and his grandfather drink the fizzing lifting drink, which Willy Wonka disappointely notices. However, Charlie is able to redeem himself and earn himself the factory by showing his honesty-- returning the Everalasting Gobstopper candy.
