What does Catherine learn about the outside world in December?

Catherine learns many things at the beginning of December. Firstly, she sees her first hanging. She is horrified by the young age of the criminal. Then, she witnesses a funeral procession and finds out that the queen has died. Then, her brother Thomas returns home and tells the family that there are no Jewish people left in England. Thomas also tells the family about how the King and the members of his court, swears. Apparently, they say phrases such as "God's Breath!"
