Uncle George returns home from the Crusades in October. Catherine shares with Uncle George what she imagines the Crusades were like, but Uncle George sets her straight. Uncle George believes the Crusades were greedy and cruel and he believes that God cannot be pleased by all the blood. A few days after his arrival, his bags arrive. Uncle George gives Catherine an old orange and a popinjay. George meets Lady Aelis and falls for her soon after.
