Why does Lily leave the flower shop for an hour in Chapter 2?

Lily is conflicted about running into Atlas and she is not sure what she wants to do. She tells Lucy to watch the shop for an hour. Then Lily parks by the Boston Harbor and writes a letter to someone named Ellen. In it she pours out her feelings and concerns hoping that writing will help her figure out what to do.
