Who is Regina from Caramelo, or, Puro Cuento: A Novel and what is their importance?

Regina is Narciso's mother. Her story parallels Soledad'sl, except we don't know much about her childhood. She is a very abrasive woman that will disrespect a pregnant woman just to respect her son. She does everything for Narciso and disregards her husband as a useless man since he cannot hustle in hard times. This was the only real model that Soledad had of a marriage and perhaps this is why she was so abrasive to other women in her life and so indifferent to her husband.
