What evidence within the story points to discord within Anders's childhood and/or family?

There is a very mysterious and troubling memory included within the final sentence of Paragraph 36. Here, the narrator is listing all of the different memories not currently available to Anders in his final moments of life. He adds, "Anders did not remember his dying mother saying of his father, 'I should have stabbed him in his sleep'" (36). This memory is never elaborated upon, nor is it ever explained.
