While readers may miss some of the more subtle aspects of Anders's critiquing style, he does in fact give credit where it is due. Although Anders appears to denigrate every element of the bank's ceiling mural, saying that it is "even worse than he had remembered" (26), he also points out that "the artist [had] had a few tricks up his sleeve" (26). While he goes on to complain that the artist had used the techniques again and again, it must be noted that he also takes the time to describe the qualities of the more pleasing qualities of the mural, among them "a certain rosy blush on the underside of the clouds" and "a coy backward glance on the faces of the cupids" (26).
