What effect has time had on Anders's worldview?

As time has passed in Anders's life, he has allowed himself to become bored and jaded in nearly every area of his existence. While naming events in his life that Anders does NOT remember, the narrator says that Anders had loved his wife "before she [had] exhausted him with her predictability" (36). Similarly, time has wreaked havoc on Anders's passion for literature and language, for now he has come to view the stack of books on his desk with both "boredom and dread" (38).
