Bruce's father is apprehensive about Bruce's attendance at the Lange's church. He feels that if something can not be explained in Lutheran terms, it is not understandable or acceptable. He a Lutheran, and to him that means being respectable. He also thinks that Bruce is trying to be better than him when Bruce begins telling him about Christ.
